Chantal Martineau's Novel None But Ourselves Sells in Three Global Deals to Simon & Schuster

Jenny Xu at Washington Square Press has acquired US rights to Chantal Martineau’s novel None But Ourselves, with Canadian rights acquired by Adrienne Kerr at Simon & Schuster Canada and UK rights acquired by Ravi Mirchandani at Summit UK. Drawing on Martineau’s own family story, this multigenerational saga follows the triumphant rise and tragic fall of Africville, a historic settlement on the outskirts of Halifax, Nova Scotia that was founded by Black Loyalists, Jamaican Maroons, and refugees from American slavery. The book represents Martineau’s fiction debut; currently earning her MFA at City College of New York, she has worked as a journalist for more than two decades covering food, climate, sustainability, travel, and culture.
